KENOSHA COUNTY ELECTION INFORMATION, NOTICES & RESULTS

What are the qualifications to vote in Wisconsin?

You must be a US citizen, 18 years of age, and a resident of the Village for ten (10) days prior to registration.

You Can Now Register to Vote Online!

Eligible Wisconsin Voters who have a current and valid Wisconsin Driver License or Wisconsin State ID Card can now register completely online!  If your name, date of birth, Wisconsin Driver License or State ID Card number, and address all match the information on file with the Wisconsin DMV, you will no longer need to mail or deliver your registration form!  To register to vote online, go to My Vote WI

If your information is current with Wisconsin DMV, you can start a new voter registration, update the name on your voter registration, or update your address for voting purposes.  If your information with Wisconsin DMV is not current, you will first need to update your information with the Wisconsin DMV before you register to vote online.  You can update your address online with Wisconsin DMV at:  http://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/online-srvcs/change-addy/default.aspx.  If you need to update your name with the Wisconsin DMV, you will need to appear in-person at a Wisconsin DMV office.  Learn more about updating your name at:  http://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/license-drvs/rnew-and-chge/name-change.aspx

If we are unable to match your voter information with Wisconsin DMV, or if you do not have a current Wisconsin Driver License or Wisconsin State ID Card you will still be able to use MyVote to start your voter registration.  You will be able to complete your registration form on this site, then you will then need to print, sign, and mail or deliver your form to your municipal clerk along with a proof of residence document.  Detailed instructions on completing this process will be provided.

What do I need to bring when I register to vote?

You will need Proof of Residence and your Wisconsin Driver License or Wisconsin State ID Card.  Federal law now requires voters who have a driver license to use the number from that license for the registration process.  In the Wisconsin Voter System (WisVote), the driver license number used on the voter registration form will be cross-checked with Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) records to make sure that the person listed with that number is the same person who registered to vote.

Voters who register or re-register in their clerk’s office, by mail, or at the polling place on Election Day will be asked to show Proof of Residence and list their driver license number on the registration form.  If your driver's license doesn't have your current address on it, you will be required to present another document as Proof of Residence.  This can be in the form of a bank statement (NOT a credit card statement), airplane pilot license, library card, university, college or technical institute fee card, university, college or technical institute identification card, any other official identification card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or by an employer in the normal course of business, but NOT a business card.  Proof of Residence can also include a residential lease that is effective for a period that includes election day, a real estate tax bill or receipt for the current year of the year preceding the date of the election, cable television, gas, electric, telephone or other utility service statement for the period commencing not earlier than ninety (90) days before the election.  All documents must show your current residence.

For voters who do not have a driver license, the number from a state DOT-issued ID card or the last four digits of a voter’s Social Security number can also be used to fulfill the federal requirement.  If using a Social Security number, you are still required to provide Proof of Residence.  People who use false identification numbers to register to vote can be prosecuted.

Registration may be done at the polls, but we recommend that you register either in person at the clerk's office or by mail to avoid long waits at the polls.  Voters who wish to register by mail must send a photocopy of their Proof of Residence to the clerk’s office.  Again, if the current address isn't on the driver's license you will also have to provide another Proof of Residence.  Once registered, voters will have a permanent voter registration number in the SVRS, but will need to fill out a new form when they change their name or move to a new address.  A Voter Registration Form is located at the bottom of this page.

Voters with questions about Wisconsin voter registration and use of the driver license number should contact the Village Clerk, Shannon Hahn, at 262.843.2313, extension 5712, or see the State Elections Division website at:  http://elections.wi.gov/
