WHY AN ECONOMIC DEVEMOPMENT COMMITTEE?
The Village Board of Trustees recently created this committee to research and explore potential growth opportunities to expand our tax base and enhance our village; and advise the board of such. Your Village Board is committed to the betterment of our Village by looking for ways to improve quality of life and availability of quality businesses and housing as detailed by our Comprehensive Plan.
WHY DOES THE VILLAGE NEED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT?
The Village is facing the same inflationary pressures that taxpayers are experiencing and looking for new revenue sources without further raising taxes on existing taxpayers. Municipalities can only raise the property tax levy at a rate that does not exceed the value of new construction and improvements to existing construction. The EDC’s goal is to seek much-needed investment in our community in the form of residential, commercial and industrial construction.
Involving the community is one of the ways to help make that happen. The result should benefit our taxpayers, residents and stake holders in building a better Salem Lakes.
