Economic Development Committee
The Economic Development Committee is created to advise the Village Board regarding local business retention and recruitment using the guidance set forth in the current Comprehensive Plan. The committee is responsible for advancing business interests, employment opportunities and economic benefits to our community by recommending actions, policies, procedures, organizations, and ordinances to the Village Board for adoption that best suit the community for a healthy and diversified economy. Such recommendations should support businesses with a positive atmosphere to locate, innovate, grow and prosper within the community. With these goals in mind, the Committee’s tasks include the following:
- Seek out developers who may have an interest in investing in the community and act as a sounding board for their ideas and projects.
- Help to expedite development plans as might be needed. Assist and involve staff as appropriate.
- Identify grants to support or expand programs.
- Seek to recruit new businesses to the Village of Salem Lakes. Seek outsourced opportunities for funding to entice those quality businesses to the village.
- Help to identify outside partnerships where appropriate (such as KABA) to facilitate business expansion.
- Review Zoning Districts, ordinances if appropriate, and suggest changes where needed.
- All other matters which might appropriately come before the committee.
The Committee is advisory only to the Board of Trustees. It cannot enter into contracts or agreements nor bind the Village without Village Board approval. Nor does the existence of the Committee usurp any of the Village Board’s powers.
